Bisher habe ich bei Inner Ocean Records „lediglich“ Tapes geordert. Nach Dominic Pierce – Hoop Loop$ folgt jetzt mit HOME GROWN (V. A.) mein zweites Vinyl vom kanadischen LoFi-Label. Auch dieses Vinyl sieht nicht nur sehr hübsch aus (Sky Blue + Pink Haze Vinyl), es ist wieder mit feinstem instrumentalem Hip Hop gefüllt. Inner Ocean hat 300 Kopien pressen lassen. Die Platte kann man bei Bandcamp oder direkt auf der Label-Seite vorbestellen. Der Versand soll Anfang März 2018 erfolgen.

Mal wieder ein kleines Debüt, mal wieder für mich. saib. – Sailing ist mein erstes Solo-Album mit marokkanischer Beteiligung. Hamma! Das passende Vinyl ist über Cold Busted erschienen. 250 Kopien wurden gepresst und ein paar davon sind noch über Bandcamp verfügbar. Ein Extra-Lob hat sich übrigens das Label Cold Busted verdient. Sie versenden seit einiger Zeit auch über UK. Das spart einiges an Portokosten. Beide Daumen hoch und vielen Dank dafür!

Meine Wertung: 8/10 für saib. – Sailing. Der marokkanische Gitarrist und Beatschmied hat hier ein sehr chilliges instrumentales Album hingelegt. Hip Hop Beats und jazzige Samples treffen auf James-Bond-Voice-Schnipsel und Klavierklänge aus Rick’s Café. Ganz grosses Klangkino mal wieder. 12 grossartige Tracks, die einen direkt an den Atlantikstrand von Casablanca beamen. All Inclusive Urlaub für den Kopf.

Favoriten: Casino, Summer in Rio und Mojito

Über das Label EASTBLVD RECORDS, das hier schon mal mit dem Tape OPAQUE – Moods Erwähnung fand, ist die EP Phil Austrom – Origins erschienen. Auch wenn die EP nur 4 Tracks stark ist und lediglich digital verfügbar ist, der in Vancouver beheimateten Trompeter hat mit Origins ein starkes Solo Debüt hingelegt. Vielleicht hört man ja demnächst noch mehr von Phil Austrom, dann auch gern als Tape oder Vinyl.

Das ist es endlich, dass langersehnte 2. Album des Texas Trios. Khruangbin – Con Todo El Mundo kommt in den modischen Vinyl-Farben schwarz, weiss und pink daher. Ich habe mich für die pinkfarbene Variante (Night Time Stories Ltd. / ALNLP50L) entschieden, von der 1000 Kopien gepresst wurden.

„Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald DJ Johnson on drums; Khruangbin’s sounds are rooted in the deepest waters of world music infused with classic soul, dub and psychedelia. Their 2015 debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was heavily influenced by 60’s and 70’s Thai cassettes the band listened to on their long car journeys to rehearsal in the Texan countryside. ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ takes inspiration not just from South East Asia but similarly underdiscovered funk and soul of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, particularly Iran.“

Wertung

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für Khruangbin – Con Todo El Mundo. Die Platte ist wieder geprägt vom minimalistischen Instrumenteneinsatz der texanischen Musikkapelle. In der Grundausstattung kommen erneut das Bass (Laura Lee), die Gitarre (Mark Speer) und das Schlagzeug (Donald “DJ” Johnson) zum Einsatz. Unterstützt wird das Trio unter anderem von einer Pedal Steel Guitar, einem Vibraphone und spärlichen Backing Vocals. Thai-Funk der 60s und 70s, Surf-Sound und Weltmusik aus dem Mittleren Osten, das beschreibt den Stil der 10 Tracks ohne Schwächen wohl am besten. Con Todo El Mundo ist ein würdiger Nachfolger für das Debüt-Album The Universe Smiles Upon You, dass mir aber immer noch ein Stückchen besser gefällt (10/10).

YAKITORY – The Purple Keys EP

Über den Instagram Account von Slick Walk kam eine Empfehlung rein, die ich euch nicht vorenthalten möchte. YAKITORY – The Purple Keys EP nennt sich das Debüt-Release des mir bisher unbekannten Beat Smith aus Berlin. Demnächst erscheint die EP auch als physisches Tape. Bis dahin gibt es die 10 Tracks Ausnahmsweise digital auf die Ohren.
