Über das Label Agogo Records, das in Hannover beheimatet ist, wurde Ende Januar 2018 das Doppel-Vinyl Keno – Around The Corner veröffentlicht. Keno? Kurz gegoogelt und auf noch so einige Pseudonyme gestossen: Renegades Of Jazz, Dem Juju Poets, Mankoora … Der Beatschmied und DJ David Hanke mag es wohl gern abwechslungsreich. Egal. Dieses mal eben Keno und eben mal richtig gut. Die Platte kann über Bandcamp und verschiedenen anderen Shops erworben werden.

„Hanke’s love for the early 21st Century downtempo music, as is apparent when you listen to this, his debut under the Keno moniker, entitled Around The Corner. It’s far from simply early ‘noughties’ nostalgia though, as his keen contemporary ear adds a modern touch to the proceedings.

Shuffling beats combine with lush guitars on the opening title track to life affirming effect. Elsewhere, Merrythought continues the theme of the album opener, this time indulging in sweeping string arrangements and sprightly keys. Other highlights include the beautiful What Remains with its soulful vocal snippets and building, jazz influenced piano refrain …“

Wertung

Meine Wertung: 8/10 für Keno – Around The Corner. David Hanke wandelt mit diesem Projekt zielsicher zwischen Trip Hop, Hip Hop, Downbeat und Electronic hin und her und schafft damit eine instrumentale Mischung, die mir so noch nicht untergekommen ist. Dazu noch Samples aus Jazz und Soul und fertig ist Keno. Auch wenn das komplette Album musikalisch für mich schwer einzuordnen ist – oder gerade deshalb – das chillige Doppel-Vinyl ist unglaublich gut durchzuhören und macht von Seite A bis D richtig Spass.

Bisher habe ich bei Inner Ocean Records „lediglich“ Tapes geordert. Nach Dominic Pierce – Hoop Loop$ folgt jetzt mit HOME GROWN (V. A.) mein zweites Vinyl vom kanadischen LoFi-Label. Auch dieses Vinyl sieht nicht nur sehr hübsch aus (Sky Blue + Pink Haze Vinyl), es ist wieder mit feinstem instrumentalem Hip Hop gefüllt. Inner Ocean hat 300 Kopien pressen lassen. Die Platte kann man bei Bandcamp oder direkt auf der Label-Seite vorbestellen. Der Versand soll Anfang März 2018 erfolgen.

Mal wieder ein kleines Debüt, mal wieder für mich. saib. – Sailing ist mein erstes Solo-Album mit marokkanischer Beteiligung. Hamma! Das passende Vinyl ist über Cold Busted erschienen. 250 Kopien wurden gepresst und ein paar davon sind noch über Bandcamp verfügbar. Ein Extra-Lob hat sich übrigens das Label Cold Busted verdient. Sie versenden seit einiger Zeit auch über UK. Das spart einiges an Portokosten. Beide Daumen hoch und vielen Dank dafür!
