2016 digital und auf Tape erschienen, 2018 endlich als Vinyl, 225 Kopien über QRATES, nahezu ausverkauft. Das ist die kurze Geschichte von The MJM Artists – Ruff Graft Revisited, dem grossartigen Album vom Label Millennium Jazz Music. Ich habe kurz mal für euch nachgeschaut. Bei Vinyl Digital und HHV könnt ihr noch ein paar Platten abstauben. Bei Bandcamp gibt es „nur“ noch die Kassette. Greift zu, es lohnt sich!

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für The MJM Artists – Ruff Graft Revisited. Grossartiges Design, grandioses Line Up und 18 (19 bei Download /Stream und Kassette) fulminante Instrumental Hip Hop Tracks. Auf dieses Vinyl habe ich mich mal wieder so richtig gefreut. Die MJM Artists haben dieses Album aufgenommen, um dem phänomenalem Mr. James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla zu huldigen. Eigentlich nur für den „internen Gebrauch“ produziert, hat man sich zum Glück dazu entschlossen die Compilation der Öffentlichkeit zu präsentieren. Guter Move! Denn diese exzellente Scheibe gehört einfach auf die Plattenteller der Welt. „DJ! Spin that shit!“

Das ist mir schon ein wenig unangenehm. Soulmade – Kvintesenco (DC032) lag seit ein oder zwei Monaten unbeachtet auf meinem #todo-Stapel. Das hat die Platte aber echt nicht verdient. Nun aber schnell … Das Vinyl ist im Februar 2018 über das Label dailyconcept als Limited Edition mit 500 Kopien erschienen. Erhältlich ist der analoge Datenträger von Kvintesenco im Online-Shop von dailyconcept.

Meine Wertung: 8/10 Soulmade – Kvintesenco. Der Beatschmied aus Reutlingen hat für das Album 14 Instrumental Hip Hop Tracks produziert, die wieder ordentlich Bass an Bord haben. Der auch als Rapper Damian von Chezz&DAM aktive Produzent, hat für den Nachfolger von One For: erneut ordentlich an seiner Hardware gedreht. Smoothe Boom Bap Beats treffen auf jazzige Samples, herrliche Mischung.

Favoriten: Sweden, Down Low und Under Da Bridge

The Big Payback ist eine Compilation-Serie vom Londoner Label Millennium Jazz Music, die geschaffen wurde, um sich bei Bloggern und Vloggern für den Support zu bedanken. Mit The Big Payback vol​.4: Breaking Even geht der Dank an die Seite Strictly Beats, die sich komplett dem Thema Instrumental Hip Hop verschrieben hat. „No Emcees. Just Instrumentals.“ Vol. 4 bietet 17 Tracks, die sich genau an dieses Motto halten. Den Sampler kann man sich als „naem your price“ Download / Stream an Land ziehen. Vielleicht schafft es Vinyl 41 auch mal irgendwann auf das Cover dieser Compilation. (Man wird ja noch träumen dürfen! ;-))

»As a longtime friend of the label and as a resident of its own club night he now gets his own compilation series to showcase his manifold taste in digging, selecting and mixing. His matter was to create a compilation of manifold genres of undiscovered, previously unreleased and for the first time on vinyl delicacies for any avid and discernable listener and dj. Especially for the vinyl lovers he dug many tracks which are treats for every set from warm-up until peak time. This compilation will stay for a long time in the bags.

For the cover he joined forces with San Francisco based oil paintress Lindsey Kustusch who cherishes the mood of this work and its spirit. Enjoy this musical trip from dub, soul, funk, instrumentals, hip hop and jazz!«

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für Oonops Drops Vol. 1. Oonops hat für die erste Ausgabe seiner Compilation eine feine Auswahl an instrumentaler Musik getroffen. Die 13 Tracks wandeln ganz entspannt zwischen Soul, Funk, Hip Hop und Jazz hin und her. Die Mixtur der Stile ist total faszinierend und an keiner Stelle langweilig. Das Ding gehört einfach auf Vinyl. Beim Abspielen der beiden Platten kann man sich ausnahmsweise den DJ sparen. Vol. 1 bedeutet auch Vol. 2. Und darauf freue ich mich schon jetzt!
