Oonops, dem ich des Öfteren bei Mixcloud zuhöre, hat mit Oonops Drops Vol. 1 den ersten Teil (s)einer neuen Compilation-Reihe veröffentlicht. Das Doppel-Vinyl (AR097VL) ist über das in Hannover ansässige Label Agogo Records erschienen. Das grandiose Coverbild stammt von der Malerin Lindsay Kustusch aus San Francisco.

»As a longtime friend of the label and as a resident of its own club night he now gets his own compilation series to showcase his manifold taste in digging, selecting and mixing. His matter was to create a compilation of manifold genres of undiscovered, previously unreleased and for the first time on vinyl delicacies for any avid and discernable listener and dj. Especially for the vinyl lovers he dug many tracks which are treats for every set from warm-up until peak time. This compilation will stay for a long time in the bags.

For the cover he joined forces with San Francisco based oil paintress Lindsey Kustusch who cherishes the mood of this work and its spirit. Enjoy this musical trip from dub, soul, funk, instrumentals, hip hop and jazz!«

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für Oonops Drops Vol. 1. Oonops hat für die erste Ausgabe seiner Compilation eine feine Auswahl an instrumentaler Musik getroffen. Die 13 Tracks wandeln ganz entspannt zwischen Soul, Funk, Hip Hop und Jazz hin und her. Die Mixtur der Stile ist total faszinierend und an keiner Stelle langweilig. Das Ding gehört einfach auf Vinyl. Beim Abspielen der beiden Platten kann man sich ausnahmsweise den DJ sparen. Vol. 1 bedeutet auch Vol. 2. Und darauf freue ich mich schon jetzt!

Favoriten: Figub Brazlevic – Shadows In The City, Cro-Magnon – Mysterious Vibes und DJ Cam Quartet – Mental Invasion (und der ganze Rest!)

Entro – Phalanx VI (Ploom Labs)

Entro – Phalanx VI ist das neueste Werk des australischen Beatschmieds, der hier bei Vinyl 41 schon mit dem Tape 60 K unterwegs ist. Veröffentlicht wurde das Instrumental Hip Hop Album als USB Drive über das Label Ploom. Auch wenn sich mir der Sinn dieses USB-Dings immer noch nicht so richtig erschliesst, hübsch sieht das Teil schon aus. Aber der Preis von 35 US-Währungseinheiten (+ 15 US-Dollar Versand) ist dann alles andere als schön. Zum Glück kann man das 23 Tracks starke Album auch digital als „name your price“ Download / Stream erwerben.

Nach MCR001 Veks – Consolation und MC003 Herring Franky – The Flip & Dip Sessions durfte natürlich die 002 nicht fehlen. Inna Attic Crookz – Number 9 nennt sich die Single, bei der die B-Seite für mich natürlich am interessantesten ist. Denn dort ist das Instrumental von Number 9 zu finden. Der von Inna Attic Crookz produzierte Hip Hop Track ist auch gleichzeitig des überaus gelungene Vinyl-Debüt des kalifornischen Beat Smith.

Intelligent Sound – GOODTAPES Vol.1

Das Label Intelligent Sound, von denen ich schon RITUALS im Kassettenregal zu liegen habe, hat mit GOODTAPES ein neues Projekt gestartet. Die Erlöse von Intelligent Sound – GOODTAPES Vol.1 und den Nachfolgern werden ausgewählten Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen gespendet. Gute Aktion. Leider sind mir die Versandkosten für die Kassette viel zu hoch. Deshalb unterstütze ich das ganze mit dem Erwerb des digitalen Albums. Aber nicht nur allein wegen der guten Sache, denn das Instrumental Hip Hop Tape von Weirddough und Rick Maun ist zudem wirklich gut.

Mit dem Vinyl Don Philippe – Hour of Shadow (DB043) kam es zur 2. Zusammenarbeit von Philippe A. Kayser und dem Berliner Underground Hip-Hop Label Dezi-Belle. Das Album wurde in klassisches schwarzes Kunststoff gepresst. Zusätzlich hat man ein clear/black marbled Design auserkoren und ebenfalls pressen lassen. Beide Versionen sind bei Bandcamp, HHV oder VinDig käuflich zu erwerben. Ich habe mich für das gemarbelte Schmuckstück entschieden.

Wertung

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für Don Philippe – Hour of Shadow. Nach Red Flower, dem IMHO chilligsten Album 2017, hat der Wahl-Berliner erneut zugeschlagen. Das 4. Soloalbum des Kolchose-Beatbastlers beinhaltet 15 Instrumental Hip Hop Tracks, die wieder total entspannt aus den Lautsprechern tönen. Ein weiteres mal hat mich Don Philippe mit seinen Lo-Fi Beats sowie den jazzigen saiten- und tastengepowerten Samples überzeugt. Without a shadow of a doubt. Berlin scheint ihm gut zu tun.

Favoriten: Without Doubt, Doubt und In Doubt no Shadow
