Murry – Downtown Chops

Nach Himmel un Äd ist mit „Murry – Downtown Chops“ das zweite Tape des Kölner Beat Smith im Vinyl-41-HQ gelandet. Wie schon der Vorgänger, so begeistert mich auch die aktuelle Kassette, für die der gute Murry 20 großartige Beats mit souligen Samples und einigen Voiceschnipseln produziert hat. Die Cuts stammen von keinem geringeren als DJ L-Coholic. Aber: „I accidentally f#cked up the Cuts…sorry for that.“ Kein Problem. Kann passieren. Die digitalen Tracks sind mittlerweile auf dem neuesten Stand und das Tape ist trotzdem richtig fett! Erhältlich sind die „Downtown Chops“ bei Bandcamp als MC (C-50 / realtime dubbed by POSTPARTUM.) und digitaler Download / Stream.

Bobby Obsy – Rusty Gate

Über den japanischen Vinyl Dienstleister QRATES ist diese fresche Instrumental Hip Hop Platte erschienen: „Bobby Obsy – Rusty Gate“. Das Ziel der Crowdfunding Aktion, die zwischen November und Dezember 2018 gelaufen ist, waren 100 Kopien. 125 sind es dann im Endeffekt geworden. Der griechische Beatschmied Bobby Obsy erzählt mit 17 entspannten bis melancholischen Tracks die Geschichte des myteriösen Vinyl-Hunters William Heist. Für diese Geschichte hat er passenderweise oldschoolige Boom Bap Beats mit Samples alter Jazz- und Soulplatten gebastelt. Prädikat: Schöne Geschichte und solides Debüt. Meine Wertung: 8/10. Favoriten: Theme Song, Madeline City und Mystery Man.

Wer gefallen an der Story und vor allem an der Musik gefunden hat, der kann sich das Vinyl bei HHV Records, VinDig oder Vinylism zulegen. Jetzt aber erstmal viel Spass beim reinhören!

»This is a story of another world. In this world the currency is vinyl records. Everything is related to music. William Heist was considered one of the best piano players but the music industry took him down. He was left broken, paralysed. The system betrayed him. After he got picked up by a group of outcasts, the Wei monks, he acquired supernatural powers. In the video you see the character wearing a pair of headphones, which is attached to his spine. This mystical piece of equipment enables the Vinyl Hunter to siphon the music of any vinyl record he touches into his body. The music enables him to walk again and perform powerful combos and moves. Simiah & The Phantom Ensemble – Connections

Mit „Simiah & The Phantom Ensemble – Connections“ haben Simiah, Dan Somers und Craig Crofton ihr Band-Debüt abgeliefert. Das Vinyl der Jungs aus Bristol ist über das Label KingUnderground Records (KU-049) erschienen. 200 Kopien sind in schwarzes Gold gepresst worden. Zusätzlich haben es 100 Exemplare auf rotes Polyvinylchlorid geschafft. Simiah und das Phantom Ensemble haben für die EP 10 Tracks produziert. Die Instrumental Platte ist mehr Jazz als Hip Hop. Drums und Samples von der MPC sowie live eingespielte Instrumente machen hier den grossen Unterschied. Entstanden ist ein sehr bedächtiges – vielleicht etwas zu kurz geratenes – Werk mit garantierter Jazzkeller-Atmosphäre. Meine Wertung: 8/10. Favoriten: Grit und Dragon Master.

Auf der Bandcamp-Seite vom Phantom Ensemble oder direkt beim Label sind noch ein paar Platten der Black Edition verfügbar. Aber auch in den Online-Auslagen von deejay.de (schwarz) und HHV Records (rot) wurden eine Hand voll Kopien gesichtet.

Minus & MRDolly – Man With a Plan

Einmal Vinyl-Erstling und zweimal Label-Debüt. Hamma! „Minus & MRDolly – Man With a Plan“ ist im Januar 2018 über das Label-Duo Kids Alone (KA001) / Circus Network (CN001) erschienen. Der portugiesische Rapper und Beat Smith hat für sein erstes Instrumental Hip Hop Album 10 exzellente Tracks produziert. Die Platte steckt voller oldschooliger Boom Bap Beats, die mit Samples aus Jazz und Soul gespickt sind. „Man With a Plan“ ist quasi ein Rückblick auf die Blütezeit der New Yorker Rap Kultur aka Golden Age of Hip-Hop. Die One-Man Band Minus & MRDolly hat mit dem vinylen Debüt einen echten Instrumental-Knaller abgeliefert. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: Mornig Skate und Summer Madness.

Russian Province Vol. 3 (Lo-Fi Opposition)

Frische Instrumental-Ware aus der russische Provinz. Nach den ersten beiden Teilen tönt mit „Russian Province Vol. 3“ endlich die nächste Compilation vom Label Lo-Fi Opposition aus den Lautsprechern im Vinyl-41-HQ. Der 18 Tracks starke Sampler ist wieder prall gefüllt mit oldschooligen Beats der russischen Produzenten-Prominenz. Wie schon die ersten beiden Teile, so ist auch Vol. 3 nur digital erhältlich. Ihr könnt euch das Album bei Bandcamp für schmale 2,50 Euro (oder mehr) als Download / Stream zulegen.
