Fazit Tapes #29

Für Tapes #29 haben sich zwei Gewinner rauskristallisiert. Die Sparte Quantität geht an FUTURES Vol. 2. Unglaubliche und durchweg gute 56 Tracks hat das Label Inner Ocean Records auf die Magnetbänder bannen lassen. Was BTW durch FUTURES Vol. 4 schon wieder getoppt wurde. Da sind unglaubliche 62 Tracks – auf zwei Tapes verteilt – am Start. Aber das nur so am Rande. Den Gesamtgewinn fährt The Spacebreaks von Funkypseli Cave Records ein. Schon mit dem ersten eigenen Sampler hat das griechische Label so richtig auf den instrumentalen Hip-Hop-Putz gehauen. Knapp dahinter landet das Beat the Sample Vol. 7 aus dem LabOhr. Wieder ganz starke Tapes, die ich durchweg empfehlen kann.

Die Debüt-Tapes von Solution und East Blvd. Records wissen echt zu gefallen und spielen für mich in einer Liga. Da freut man sich schon auf potentielle Nachfolger. Für beide Kassetten lobe ich Silber aus. Gold gibt es für das Beattape ENTRO – 60k, dass über das grossartige Label Mt. Fuji Tapes vertrieben wird. Der australische Beatschmied von LAB Co., wo auch bryZone_ybp beheimatet ist, hat mit der 16 Tracks starken und ca. 40 Minuten Spieldauer belegten Kassette eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass er ein ganz Grosser im Instrumental Hip Hop Business ist.

Ein immer häufiger auftretendes Phänomen: Musikkassetten, die nie das Innenleben eines Tapedecks oder Walkmans zu Gesicht bekommen. Sie kennen ihr Potential, aber verbringen einen trostlosen Tag nach dem anderen im Stillstand. Kaum ausgepackt, liegen sie unbewegt im Regal und hinterfragen den Sinn des Lebens, während sie neidisch auf den Laptop herabblicken. Suizidgedanken kommen auf. Überspiel mich wenigstens oder was hab ich denn falsch gemacht? Liegt es an mir? Bin ich nicht dope genug? Bin ich zu einem Leben als Sammlerstück verdammt?

Leider erleiden viel zu viele Tapes dieses traurige Schicksal. Aber damit ist jetzt Schluss! Die Initiative VG+ (auch als Anti-Mint bekannt) hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Beattapes ein kassettenwürdiges Dasein zu ermöglichen. Umdrehen, zurück- und vorspulen, Verbrauchserscheinungen, Abnutzung, ein Sprung in der Hülle und vielleicht irgendwann ein fataler Bandsalat. Hauptsache das Tape kann am Ende von sich behaupten, ein erfülltes Leben geführt zu haben.

Aber wie soll es zu diesem Umdenken kommen? Mit VG+, einem Splittape, das seine Magie erst durch den analogen Konsum richtig entfaltet. Verantwortlich für den modernen BoomBap Sound auf dem Tape sind die beiden Produzenten/DJs Lenz & O (Kram aus der Ecke), die nicht nur ein Händchen für Pads und Regler besitzen, sondern auch am Crossfader Boss sind. Das Ergebnis ist etwas Ganzes − zwei Seiten, die zusammenpassen wie die Ghettofaust aufs dritte Auge. 40 Minuten, die am Stück gehört werden wollen. Zieh’s dir analog rein und werde Teil der VG+ Bewegung. Zeig ein Herz für Kassetten und spiel sie ab.

Fazit Tapes #27

Vorab, alle drei Split-Tapes haben mir gefallen. Es ist sehr schön anzuhören, wie abwechslungsreich die Seiten A und B mit den jeweils verschiedenen Produzenten sind. Die Tapes von Rohkost Records und Bumm Clack Records belegen einen gemeinsamen und hochverdienten zweiten Platz. Der Gewinner von Tapes #27 ist die Kassette Tides x Oofoe – Hoodie Season von DirtyBeauty. Vom Anfang der Seite A bis zum Ende der Seite B, Lo-Fi vom Allerfeinsten. Nach dem Sampler Two Year Anniversary hat das Label mit diesem chilligen Album erneut einen Volltreffer gelandet.

Für Dogztrumentals Vol.3 tritt der Beatschmied Tito Tentaculo die Nachfolge von Babakunin (Vol.1) und Thelonious Coltrane (Vol.2) an. Voicesamples aus dem Berliner Kneipenmilieu treffen auf fetzige Beats. Voll knorke. Mit Dogztrumentals Vol.4 verlässt Das Label mit dem Hund die Soloschiene und geht mit „Each beatmaker with 2 tracks, 20 tracks in total!“ neue Wege. Die 10 Produzenten haben tief in ihre Beat- und Samplekisten gegriffen und 20 instrumentale Meisterwerke auf das Magnetband kopieren lassen. Für die Hip Dozer Compilation vol​.​2 wurden sogar 24 Beatbastler an die Regler und Drum Pads beordert, die auch ordentlich abgeliefert haben.

Schwierige Entscheidung. Hmmm, kurz nochmal zurückgespult und aufgedreht. Ok, der Tagessieg für Tapes #26 geht in vollster Knappheit an Dogztrumentals Vol.4. Die Tracks von DerRalle, johnEkwest, Thelonious Coltrane und Co. haben mich am nachhaltigsten begeistert. Glückwunsch!

whenever i’m asked how i would describe my own music, i tell that it expresses my sense for melancholy and nostalgia, joined by what’s going on in my actual life. every single beat i made so far, as short as each of them might be, captures a small time frame of my life and the feelings that i associate with it. Auch wenn ich Chop Suey (als Nahrungsmittel) nicht wirklich mag, das Tape von Oboone macht richtig Spass. Samples aus Soul und von Klavierstücken, eine wilde Mischung die passt. Boom Bap vom feinsten. Upper Class macht in NOSTALGIC. Oldschoolige, chillige und leicht sentimentale Beats, mit denen man von der Vergangenheit träumen kann. Das tomorrow tape vom graves wurde mir empfohlen. (Wenn ich nur noch wüsste von wem???) Ich habe die Kassette „blind“ gekauft und es nicht bereut. Lo-Fi pur. So wie es das Label Mt. Fuji Tapes verspricht (Record Label specializing in Lo-Fi beat tapes).

Gewinner von Tapes #25: gibt es keinen. Verlierer von Tapes #25: gibt es erst recht nicht! Alle drei Kassetten sind eine Empfehlung des Hauses.
