JoDu – Off The Tracks (POSTPARTUM.)

Nach dem absolut großartigen Tape crystallinus (KADV / kadv004) ist mit „JoDu – Off The Tracks“ das zweite Album des Koblenzer Beatschmieds im Vinyl-41-HQ eingetroffen. Das Vinyl ist über das – von mir sehr geschätzte – Label POSTPARTUM. (PPT-LP-19) erschienen. Vorab gibt es gleich mal ein Sonderlob für Artwork und Layout. Da hat der gute Hydrogenii mal wieder einen exzellenten Job gemacht. Lob! Die Platte ist in zwei Varianten erschienen: 250x Marble Edition und 150x Black Edition. Natürlich ist auch wieder der OBI Strip dabei und handnummeriert ist das Ding sowieso. Erneut ein absoluter Hingucker vom Label aus Edelsfeld.

Aber auch akustisch weiss das von SterilOne (Staub Audio Engineering) gemasterte Album voll zu überzeugen. 15 Tracks hat JoDu, der Produzent vom AkaiRamba-Team, für „Off The Tracks“ gebastelt. Feinste Boom Bap Beats mit jazzigen Samples ergeben ein süperbes Instrumental Hip Hop Album. Kopfnicker von vorn bis hinten. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: Hotshit, Heavy und Lord Wiz.

Behind Clouds – Tranquil

Das Motto „beatless / beat tape“ habe ich erst gar nicht verstanden. Aber nach der ersten Rotation von „Behind Clouds – Tranquil“ viel es dann wie Schuppen auf das Vinyl. Auf der A-Seite befinden sich die melodiösen Produktionen von Behind Clouds, die schon allein ihr Geld wert wären. Die B-Seite beherbergt – in umgekehrter Reihenfolge – die Instrumental Hip Hop Beats mit den Melodien der A-Seite. Alles klar? Nee? Dann anhören und staunen … Das Konzept ist für mich absolut neu und gefällt total. Die neun Tracks der ersten Seite sind total entspannt, harmonisch und voll romantisch. Diese Grundlagen werden dann auf der zweiten Seite von neun verschiedenen Beatschmieden auf Hip Hop getrimmt und klingen damit komplett anders, aber auch richtig gut. Großartiges Album. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: not being able to explain why und a world you may not understand.

Die Platte wurde über den japanischen Vinyl Dienstleister QRATES erfolgreich vorfinanziert. Die anvisierten 100 Kopien wurden mit 7 Exemplaren übererfüllt. Die Bandcamp-Seite unseres heutigen Protagonisten ist bereits leergekauft. Aber die beiden deutschen Vinyl-Spezialisten HHV Records und VinDig haben noch ein paar Kopien gebunkert.

PENPALS x Junclassic – Tell Your Uncle

Über HHV Records ist das Album „PENPALS x Junclassic – Tell Your Uncle“ (HHV780) erschienen. Neben den vollgerappten Seiten A und B sind auf C und D die erstklassigen Instrumentals zu finden. Schön, dass das Berliner Label mit diesen Deluxe Editions immer an die Freunde der gediegenen Instrumental-Unterhaltung denkt. Denn auch bei „Tell Your Uncle“ lohnt sich das Anhören der „nackten“ Stücke sehr. Bestimmt auch nicht verwunderlich, wenn man sich die Riege der Beatschmiede anschaut, die an diesem Album beteiligt waren.

Die Lines von PENPALS und Junclassic passen hervorragend auf die samplelastigen Boom Bap Beats von Squires, Lars Viola, Pawcut, Rapswell, Husky, Wun Two und den Jazz Spastiks. Das Doppel-Vinyl ist ein optisches und akustisches Glanzstück für das heimische Plattenregal. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: Thieves (prod. by Squires), Classic Material (prod. by Squires) und Loops of Funk (prod. by Jazz Spastiks). Die auf 300 Kopien limitierte Deluxe Colored Vinyl Edition ist direkt auf der Penpals-Bandcamp-Seite sowie in den Online-Shops HHV Records und Fat Beats zum Kauf verfügbar.

Bobby Obsy – Rusty Gate

Über den japanischen Vinyl Dienstleister QRATES ist diese fresche Instrumental Hip Hop Platte erschienen: „Bobby Obsy – Rusty Gate“. Das Ziel der Crowdfunding Aktion, die zwischen November und Dezember 2018 gelaufen ist, waren 100 Kopien. 125 sind es dann im Endeffekt geworden. Der griechische Beatschmied Bobby Obsy erzählt mit 17 entspannten bis melancholischen Tracks die Geschichte des myteriösen Vinyl-Hunters William Heist. Für diese Geschichte hat er passenderweise oldschoolige Boom Bap Beats mit Samples alter Jazz- und Soulplatten gebastelt. Prädikat: Schöne Geschichte und solides Debüt. Meine Wertung: 8/10. Favoriten: Theme Song, Madeline City und Mystery Man.

Wer gefallen an der Story und vor allem an der Musik gefunden hat, der kann sich das Vinyl bei HHV Records, VinDig oder Vinylism zulegen. Jetzt aber erstmal viel Spass beim reinhören!

»This is a story of another world. In this world the currency is vinyl records. Everything is related to music. William Heist was considered one of the best piano players but the music industry took him down. He was left broken, paralysed. The system betrayed him. After he got picked up by a group of outcasts, the Wei monks, he acquired supernatural powers. In the video you see the character wearing a pair of headphones, which is attached to his spine. This mystical piece of equipment enables the Vinyl Hunter to siphon the music of any vinyl record he touches into his body. The music enables him to walk again and perform powerful combos and moves. He becomes a vigilante, the so called „Vinyl Hunter“ aiming to end the corruption of the music industry. Simiah & The Phantom Ensemble – Connections

Mit „Simiah & The Phantom Ensemble – Connections“ haben Simiah, Dan Somers und Craig Crofton ihr Band-Debüt abgeliefert. Das Vinyl der Jungs aus Bristol ist über das Label KingUnderground Records (KU-049) erschienen. 200 Kopien sind in schwarzes Gold gepresst worden. Zusätzlich haben es 100 Exemplare auf rotes Polyvinylchlorid geschafft. Simiah und das Phantom Ensemble haben für die EP 10 Tracks produziert. Die Instrumental Platte ist mehr Jazz als Hip Hop. Drums und Samples von der MPC sowie live eingespielte Instrumente machen hier den grossen Unterschied. Entstanden ist ein sehr bedächtiges – vielleicht etwas zu kurz geratenes – Werk mit garantierter Jazzkeller-Atmosphäre. Meine Wertung: 8/10. Favoriten: Grit und Dragon Master.

Auf der Bandcamp-Seite vom Phantom Ensemble oder direkt beim Label sind noch ein paar Platten der Black Edition verfügbar. Aber auch in den Online-Auslagen von deejay.de (schwarz) und HHV Records (rot) wurden eine Hand voll Kopien gesichtet.
