Auch dieses Doppel-Vinyl von Chillhop Records wurde wieder über Qrates crowdgefunded. Stolze 730 Kopien sind im Umlauf. Leider wurde dieses mal auf eine Nummerierung verzichtet. Das gibt Abzüge in der B-Note!

Wertung für Chillhop Essentials – Summer 2017
Meine Wertung: 8/10 für „Chillhop Essentials – Summer 2017“. 23 chillige Tracks mir bekannter (z.B. Birocratic, mtbrd, Philanthrope, Brock Berrigan und Flamingosis) und unbekannter Produzenten, wieder mal eine klangliche Entdeckungsreise auf Instrumental Island. Erneut ein sehr schöner Sampler aus dem Hause Chillhop Records, der auch Vorfreude auf die nächste Platte weckt. Aber der Herbst wird wohl erst im Winter erscheinen … Favoriten: mtbrd – Damn Fine Coffee, Poldoore – Vista, iamalex – If Only For A Day und The Cancel – Can’t You See.

Alle drei Tapes bieten genau das, wofür Millennium Jazz Music steht: Instrumental Hip Hop mit chilligen Beats und jazzigen Samples. Besonders gut gefällt mir die Kassette Millennium Jazz Music – Made In Germany: OTR Vol.2. Auf dem Sampler tummeln sich viele – Achtung: Überraschung – deutsche Beatbastler. L One, Ebbe Funk, DJ Obsolete, AK420, B-Side uvm. haben insgesamt 16 Tracks produziert, die es auch wirklich verdient haben auf OTR Vol.2 zu landen. Leider ist das Tape schon ausverkauft. Ich hätte es sonst zum Kauf empfohlen.
Nach langer Irrfahrt durch die Welt und kuriosen Tracking-informationen des Transportdienstleisters ist die Platte endlich angekommen: Blue In Green – The Break of Dawn (Remastered). Der Klassiker vom kalifornischen Label Cold Busted, der ursprünglich am 17. März 2015 veröffentlicht wurde, kommt jetzt remastered im hübschen blauen Vinyl daher. Diese Version ist auf schlanke 250 Kopien limitiert.

Wertung für Blue In Green – The Break of Dawn
Meine Wertung: 8/10 für „Blue In Green – The Break of Dawn“. Die sehr chillige Platte ist IMHO mehr Jazz als Hip Hop. Das soll keine Kritik sein, eher ein Hinweis auf die musikalische Richtung. Der Japaner Blue In Green, dessen Nickname wohl auf das gleichnamige Album von Miles Davis abzielt, hat dieses Album schon 2015 veröffentlicht. Jetzt in 2017 klingt es nicht nur super, es sieht in dem blauen Vinyl auch ebenso super aus. Favoriten: Rendezvous, Masquerade / The Night Watch und Last Night’s Dream.
‘The Break of Dawn’, a full-length album from Japan’s Blue In Green, a composer and guitarist of Bossa Nova and Jazz, is a Downtempo soiree of Hip Hop and Jazz styles. ‘Rendezvous’ begins with the warm crackles of an analog record into beautiful piano scales, and Hip Hop beats at about 97BPM, with subtle bass, horns, cuts and melodic loops. ‘Voyage’ starts with a steady, often manipulated beat; more stunning piano along with Electric guitar riffs nicely compliment each other in a lighthearted rhythm. ‘Masquerade / The Night Watch’ features a rocking upright Bass, piano, sax, cymbal percussion and steady kick drum with relaxed undertones for a Jazzy, sexy, nostalgic and textured tune … [more]“
Oddisee – The Odd Tape. YAPIA. Yet Another Perfect Instrumental Album. Das Vinyl im Cream/Brown/Orange Splatter Design wird über das Label Mello Music Group (MMG-00080-1) vertrieben und sieht verdammt hübsch aus. Aber noch mehr gefällt mir der Klang der Musik, der in das bunte Kunststoff gepresst wurde. Hamma! The Odd Tape ist seit dem ersten Auflegen ein instrumentales Highlight in meiner Plattensammlung.

Wertung für Oddisee – The Odd Tape
Meine Wertung: 10/10 für „Oddisee – The Odd Tape“. Super Drums, entspannte Beats in Hip-Hop, Soul und Jazz … der in Brooklyn beheimatete Beatsmith und Rapper hat mit den 12 instrumentalen Tracks ein richtig fettes Album produziert. Die ganze Platte ist wie aus einem Stück gefeilt, macht Spass von der ersten bis zur letzten Rille. Dazu kommt noch das fantastische Design/Artwork von Cover, Sleeve und Vinyl. Da passt einfach alles. Perfekt! (Sorry für die Anhäufung von Superlativen, aber ich finde das ganze Album so richtig rattenscharf.) Favoriten: Right Side of the Bed , No Sugar No Cream und Still Sleeping.

Fazit Tapes #17
Die drei schwergewichtigen Tapes BLESS Vol. 1 (2 Tapes) und Selected Loops haben einige mir schon bekannte Betaschmiede (z.B. Eevee, PRGMAT, axion117, MF Eistee oder L One) an Bord, aber von den meisten Produzenten habe ich vorher noch nichts gehört. Genau das ist der Punkt an diesen Samplern, der mich immer wieder schwer begeistert. Neue Produzenten, frische Beats, so muss das. Legt Euch diese Tapes zu, absolute Empfehlung.
