Mit „Hi-Hat Club Vol. 1 – Testiculo Y Uno“ startete damals™ im Jahr 2009 eine neue Instrumental-Serie vom Label Melting Pot Music. 10 Jahre später ist die Platte endlich auch im Vinyl-41-HQ aufgeschlagen. Von der Erstpressung (MPM077) wurden 500 Kopien angefertigt. „The first press is limited to 500 copies and got a note on the back that it’s 1 out of 500 copies. Second comes without this note but is otherwise completely identical.“ Zweitere Version läuft jetzt auf dem lokalen Plattendreher.
Testiculo Y Uno – wahrscheinlich besser bekannt als Hulk Hodn und Twit One – befeuern das Debüt der MPM producer series. Die A-Seite des Vinyl ist bestens gefüllt mit fetten Beats von Twit One. Die zweite Seite wurde mit exzellenten Tracks von Hulk Hodn bespielt. Das Köllner Duo hat für „Hi-Hat Club Vol. 1“ insgesamt 19 Tracks mit großartigen Instrumentals produziert. Die Platte ist voll mit prächtigen Beats und verstaubten Samples aus Jazz und Soul. Schönes Ding! Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: „Mariquita“, „Windyridge“ und „Later“.

Wenn ich richtig mitgezählt habe, dann ist der 7-Zöller „plusma x FatB – Initial“ die Nummer 7 der Weddinger 7inch Series vom Label Dezi-Belle. Die kleine Scheibe beherbergt zwei Solo-Tracks von plusma & FatB und zwei gemeinsame Instrumentals. Alle vier Tracks strotzen nur so vor Chilligkeit. Aber bei den teilnehmenden Beatschmieden auch kein Wunder, haben sich doch beide dem instrumentalen Lo-Fi verschrieben. Großartige und tiefenentspannte Beats mit jazzigen Samples. Enough said. Der Plattenschnitzer von Dezi-Belle hat 50 Kopien angefertigt. Erhältlich ist das musikalische Quartett auf der Bandcamp-Seite des Labels.
a Cat Called FRITZ – TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF (Extended Edition)
Auf das Album „a Cat Called FRITZ – TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF“ bin ich schon eine Weile scharf. Leider ist das Vinyl aus dem Jahr 2015 relativ vergriffen. Dank HHV Records komme ich jetzt aber doch noch in den Genuss der Platte(n). Das Berliner Label hat im November 2018 „TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF“ als Extended Edition (HHV424DLX / 3LP) inkl. reichlich Bonusmaterial veröffentlicht. Yeah!
Das Originalalbum mit den Beats von a Cat Called FRITZ und den Features von Audessey, T-Love, Chaotik Stylz, RepLife und einigen mehr ist schon eine Granate. Aber die Extended Version mit den „fehlenden“ Instrumentals und ein paar Bonus-Tracks weiss noch mehr zu gefallen. Der Pariser Produzent hat im Jahr 2015 insgesamt 12 Tracks gebastelt, die mit oldschooligen Beats und jazzig entspannten Samples überzeugen und auch in 2019 total frisch klingen. Die zusätzlichen Tracks werten das schon exzellente Originalalbum noch mal ein Stückchen auf. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: „Jungle Vibe“, „The Sun Instrumental“ und „Purpose Instrumental“

Bei dem Doppel-Album „Amerigo Gazaway – A Common Wonder“ kommt (für mich) echt zusammen, was (für mich) zusammen gehört: Soul, Hip Hop, Instrumentals und Vinyl. Stevie Wonder und Amerigo Gazaway, was für eine geile Kombination. Hamma! Das Doppel-Vinyl ist natürlich ein Soul Mates Project (COMMONWONDERINS), wurde 2018 veröffentlicht und ist auf 500 Kopien limitiert.
Die eindringlichen Soul-Melodien aus der Motown-Era, die Stevie Wonder mit dem frühen Einsatz von Synthesizern, Drum-Machines und Samplern damals™ geschaffen hat, passen perfekt zu den Hip-Hop-Beats von Amerigo Gazaway. Das ultimative Mashup. Ich feiere das Ding total. Meine Wertung: 10/10. Favoriten: „Intro Theme (I Wonder)“, „The Sixth Superstition“, „For Once In My Life feat. Erykah Badu“ und „Pop’s Rap feat. Darunter drei Magnetbänder, die mir besonders am Herzen liegen. „PRGMAT – Happy Herbal Harvest“ (Tapeinvader), „Morti Viventear – Dumpster Funk Vol. 1“ und die Staubsound Rakete „Franz Branntwein – Inject tha raw shit“ sind meine heimlichen Favoriten-Tapes in 2019. Instrumentals vom Feinsten. Aber der „Rest“ ist natürlich auch eine Empfehlung wert.

»Dumpster Funk is a beat tape series aimed for rappers and 90’s hip hop heads missing the vibe of the boom bap era. This stylistic exercise is a tribute to the producers that inspired me growing up. Fans of Pete Rock, Buckwild, Premier, Havoc, Lord Finesse and Large Professor should definitely dig this 60 minutes funk/jazz/soul sample fest. It was entirely produced from analogue sources and vintage equipment, the old-fashioned way. From the record, through the 12bit sampler, straight to the 4-track. I chose the cassette format to remain true to the medium of choice of this era.«
