Mit Kuartz – Koishiteru liegt die nächste Vinyl-Perle, die über den Crowdfunder Qrates finanziert wurde, auf meinem lokalen Plattenteller. Der Beatbastler aus Manchester hat 14 soulige Tracks in das schwarze Kunststoff pressen lassen. Der Nachfolger vom eher jazzigen Album Shurikens (Village Live Records / TVI007) ist „self-published“ und auf 200 Kopien limitiert.

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für “Kuartz – Koishiteru”. Für dieses Vinyl scheinen viele Soul-45er aus der Motown-Ära gesampelt worden zu sein. Ich hatte sofort die Soundtracks von Serien à la „Wunderbare Jahre (The Wonder Years)“ vor Augen. Anyway … 1960er Soul gemischt mit Hip-Hop-Beats, keiner hat das momentan so gut im Griff wie dieser Kuartz. „Crazy mad record, sample choice, those chops, crazy ass drums. Straight fire.“ sagt der prgmat. Passende Worte vom Fachmann. Grossartiges Album. So hätte Hip Hop höchstwahrscheinlich in den guten alten Sechzigern geklungen. Die Platte Koishiteru 恋してる (In Love) landet bestimmt in meiner persönlichen Top 10 für das Jahr 2017.
Da liegen ja wieder zwei Pracht-Sampler im bzw. in der Nähe des heimischen Tapedeck(s). POSTPARTUM Vol. 3 und FUTURES Vol. 4 bieten unglaubliche 75 Tracks von 75 Produzenten, verteilt auf drei Kassetten. Hamma! Da haben die Labels POSTPARTUM. und Inner Ocean Records erneut so richtig einen rausgehauen. Viel Spass beim reinhören!

Eine gewisse Vorliebe für Sampler habe ich schon mal HIER und HIER erwähnt. Diese Sympathien für eben jene Various-Artists-Geschichten werden von POSTPARTUM Vol. 3 und FUTURES Vol. 4 wieder bestens unterstützt. Alle drei Kassetten bieten Instrumental Hip Hop vom feinsten und stundenlangen Hörgenuss inkl. diverser Kopfnicker. Unbedingt mehr davon. Danke!
Frische Beats aus Tokio: „Fitz Ambrose – Doe Quarterz“. Der gebürtige Kanadier hat mit diesem Album sein Solo-Vinyl-Debüt hingelegt. Die Platte wird über das Label All City Dublin (ACNBN-001) vertrieben und ist der erste Teil der neuen NBN-Serie (Nothin ‚But Net) von Onra.
Meine Wertung: 7/10 für “Fitz Ambrose – Doe Quarterz”. Auch nach mehrmaligem Anhören wird es das Album wohl nicht zu meinen Favoriten schaffen. Die verwendeten Zutaten – Samples aus Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop und R’n’B der 80er und 90er – sind gut gewählt. Aber manche Beats klingen für mich etwas anstrengend und überlastet. „Stripped down intricate Hip-Hop beats, heavily layered with vocals, obscure samples and unpredictable drum progressions.“ Das beschreibt es IMHO sehr treffend. Für meinen Geschmack ein bisschen zu obskur und unvorhersehbar.

Für Hydrogenii – Next Heap Of Sequences und Ded Tebiase – Landspeed habe ich schon vinyle Bewertungen vorgenommen. Von Masterpiece und ganz ok reichte meine Meinung, die sich logischerweise bei den Kassetten fortsetzt. Seeds von René Schier kommt da nochmal ganz anders daher. Nicht so oldschoolig wie die Tapes von Hydrogenii und Ded Tebiase, eher experimentell, sphärisch und sehr jazzig. Genau das macht den Reiz der Schierschen Beats aus, was auch schon bei den Vorgängern Zazen und RITUALS zu beobachten bzw. zu hören war.
Das sicherlich zu recht gehypte Album Seventy Five (2016 / TVI002) habe ich leider verpasst. Aber bei „Ded Tebiase – Landspeed“ war ich wachsamer. Jetzt stehen Vinyl und Kassette in hübschem Weiss auch physisch bereit. Der neueste Streich vom britischen Label Village Live Records ist leider wieder kein reines Instrumental Album (TVI011) geworden, es gefällt aber trotzdem ganz gut. Die Platte ist auf 200 vinyle Kopien in weiss und 200 in schwarz limitiert.

Meine Wertung: 7/10 für „Ded Tebiase – Landspeed“. Wie weiter oben schon kurz erwähnt, Landspeed ist leider kein reines Instrumental Album. Die Features von Kelz & Sir Beanz OBE, Hozay & Axel Holy, Veks und Co. sind ganz ok. Aber dieser Benaddict geht mir, wie schon bei Teal, sprechgesanglich ganz schön auf den Senkel. Meine Meinung! Ansonsten: die Produktion von Ded Tebiase ist über alle Zweifel erhaben. Der Beatsschmied aus Bristol (UK) hat sein Equipment voll im Griff und hat damit wieder coole Beats gebaut. Favoriten: Landspeed, Teefless und Miss Groves.
