a Cat Called FRITZ – TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF (Extended Edition)
Auf das Album „a Cat Called FRITZ – TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF“ bin ich schon eine Weile scharf. Leider ist das Vinyl aus dem Jahr 2015 relativ vergriffen. Dank HHV Records komme ich jetzt aber doch noch in den Genuss der Platte(n). Das Berliner Label hat im November 2018 „TRIBULATIONS & LIFE OF“ als Extended Edition (HHV424DLX / 3LP) inkl. reichlich Bonusmaterial veröffentlicht. Yeah!
Das Originalalbum mit den Beats von a Cat Called FRITZ und den Features von Audessey, T-Love, Chaotik Stylz, RepLife und einigen mehr ist schon eine Granate. Aber die Extended Version mit den „fehlenden“ Instrumentals und ein paar Bonus-Tracks weiss noch mehr zu gefallen. Der Pariser Produzent hat im Jahr 2015 insgesamt 12 Tracks gebastelt, die mit oldschooligen Beats und jazzig entspannten Samples überzeugen und auch in 2019 total frisch klingen. Die zusätzlichen Tracks werten das schon exzellente Originalalbum noch mal ein Stückchen auf. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: „Jungle Vibe“, „The Sun Instrumental“ und „Purpose Instrumental“

Bei dem Doppel-Album „Amerigo Gazaway – A Common Wonder“ kommt (für mich) echt zusammen, was (für mich) zusammen gehört: Soul, Hip Hop, Instrumentals und Vinyl. Stevie Wonder und Amerigo Gazaway, was für eine geile Kombination. Hamma! Das Doppel-Vinyl ist natürlich ein Soul Mates Project (COMMONWONDERINS), wurde 2018 veröffentlicht und ist auf 500 Kopien limitiert.
Die eindringlichen Soul-Melodien aus der Motown-Era, die Stevie Wonder mit dem frühen Einsatz von Synthesizern, Drum-Machines und Samplern damals™ geschaffen hat, passen perfekt zu den Hip-Hop-Beats von Amerigo Gazaway. Das ultimative Mashup. Ich feiere das Ding total. Meine Wertung: 10/10. Favoriten: „Intro Theme (I Wonder)“, „The Sixth Superstition“, „For Once In My Life feat. Erykah Badu“ und „Pop’s Rap feat. Seit der letzten Kassetten-Schau ist wieder einiges an Tapes im Vinyl-41-HQ gelandet oder wieder aufgetaucht. Satte acht MCs habe ich für „Tapes 04 2019“ ausgewählt. Darunter drei Magnetbänder, die mir besonders am Herzen liegen. „PRGMAT – Happy Herbal Harvest“ (Tapeinvader), „Morti Viventear – Dumpster Funk Vol. 1“ und die Staubsound Rakete „Franz Branntwein – Inject tha raw shit“ sind meine heimlichen Favoriten-Tapes in 2019. Instrumentals vom Feinsten. Aber der „Rest“ ist natürlich auch eine Empfehlung wert.

»Dumpster Funk is a beat tape series aimed for rappers and 90’s hip hop heads missing the vibe of the boom bap era. This stylistic exercise is a tribute to the producers that inspired me growing up. Fans of Pete Rock, Buckwild, Premier, Havoc, Lord Finesse and Large Professor should definitely dig this 60 minutes funk/jazz/soul sample fest. It was entirely produced from analogue sources and vintage equipment, the old-fashioned way. From the record, through the 12bit sampler, straight to the 4-track. I chose the cassette format to remain true to the medium of choice of this era.«

Franz Branntwein – Inject tha raw shit (Staubound)
Neues vom Langohr aus Basel. Nach dem Erfolgsdebüt Orb legt der Schweizer Beatschmied mit „Meister Lampe – Orb II“ sauber nach. Auch der zweite Teil ist über das Label okwow (okwow0020) erschienen. Der limited Vinyl-Edition liegen ein A2 Poster, drei Sticker und ein Download Code bei. Da ist man gleich rundum versorgt.
Meister Lampe vertraut erneut auf die Neun-Track-Strategie. Keine Ahnung, was das ist. Klingt aber gut. Für die Hip Hop Beats von „Orb II“ hat er sich wieder auf eine musikalische Weltreise begeben. Bei seiner Heimreise hatte er Samples aus Indien, Grenada, Brasilien, Benin und den Kap Verden im Gepäck. Alles Zutaten ergeben, ordentlich vermixt, ein exzellentes und abwechslungsreiches Instrumental Album. Das von Ludwig Maier/GKG Mastering gemasterte und von Taj Francis gestaltete Vinyl ist ein eindrucksvoller Nachfolger vom Solo-Debüt des helvetischen Produzenten. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: „Yemoja“, „Nuralain“ und „Gardens Of Isfahan“.
Für die Basler Kundschaft hat sich das Beat-Karnickel etwas ganz besonderes ausgedacht. Hier bestellt und anschließend vom Künstler himself per Velo ausgeliefert. Hamma! Der gewöhnliche Rest vom Schützenfest, dem ich natürlich auch angehöre, muss auf die Online-Shops von HHV Records und VinDig zurückgreifen. Das sind aber auch keine schlechten Adressen …

Das Label Trio Radio Juicy / Urban Waves Records / HHV Records hat sich mal wieder einem Lo-Fi Klassiker angenommen und ihn auf Vinyl gebannt: „tajima hal – tones“ (HHV785). Das Instrumental Album ist erstmalig 2015 über das belgische Label Urban Waves (UWR040) digital und als Kassette (100 Exemplare; leider ausverkauft) erschienen. Im März 2018 wurde „tones“ endlich als Doppel-Vinyl – limitiert auf 300 Kopien – auf die Plattenspieler der Welt losgelassen.
Der japanische Beatschmied tajima hal, der im Vinyl-41-HQ schon mit Isolated Planet vertreten ist, hat für das „tones“ Album satte 25 Tracks aus wahrscheinlich hunderten in 2015 produzierten Stücken ausgewählt. Auf allen vier Seiten sind entspannte Instrumental Hip Hop Beats mit hervorragend ausgewählten, knisternden und jazzigen Samples zu hören. Für ein paar Songs hat er Unterstützung von seinem „partner in crime“ Lidly erhalten. Passt. Großartiges Album, dass auf Vinyl nochmal um einiges besser klingt. Hat sich also gelohnt. Zu mindestens für mich. Meine Wertung: 9/10. Favoriten: „Deeper“, „Part Of The Game“, „Light In The Glass“ und „Ms. August“.
