Nach den Alben „Chillhop Raw Cuts“ und „Chillhop Essentials – Spring 2017“ ist „Brock Berrigan – Point Pleasant“ die dritte Platte vom Plattenlabel Chillhop Records, die ich über die Crowdfunding Plattform Qrates erworben habe. Was mich dieses mal etwas geärgert hat: einige Online-Shops haben noch vor Qrates ausgeliefert bzw. hatten die Chance dazu. Die eigentlichen Unterstützer haben damit erst nach den Händlern die Vinyls erhalten. Für mich irgendwie der falsche Weg. Aber das nur so am Rande. Es soll sich hier schliesslich ums Vinyl drehen … und das dreht sich super!

Wertung für Brock Berrigan – Point Pleasant

Meine Wertung: 8/10 für „Brock Berrigan – Point Pleasant“. Da ist es, dass erste eigene Release des New Yorker Beatsmith beim niederländischen Label Chillhop. 14 selbstproduzierte und jazzige Instrumentals ohne jeglichem Feature, die es Wert waren, auf Vinyl gepresst zu werden. Sehr chillige Tracks, wie es schon der Name seiner Plattenfirma verspricht. Absolute Empfehlung!

Meine Favoriten: „The Look“, „So in Love“ und das sehr entspannte „Smoke Break“.

„Point Pleasant was created over a 7 month time period of solitude, dedication, exploring sounds, and debauchery. I tried to get out of the comfort zone and dive into some new styles while keeping a cohesive feel throughout the album. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences of making a record I’ve gone through and hopefully you can hear it in the music. Aimed this shit to hit the soul and instill some feel good audio intoxication into the world. Sit back, grab a drink, turn it up, and enjoy.“

Eigentlich erscheint das Album aus dem Radio Juicy – Urban Waves – HHV – Joint Venture erst am 23.08.2017. Aus irgendeinem Grund oder durch irgendeine höhere Macht hat das Vinyl „invention – hibernature“ (HHV645) schon vor dem offiziellen Release seinen Weg in meinen Briefkasten gefunden. Und das ist auch gut so. Denn je eher man das richtig gute Album hört, umso länger hat man etwas davon.

Wertung für invention – hibernature

Meine Wertung: 8/10 für „invention – hibernature“. Vom Album kann man bis zum offiziellen Release am 23.08.2017 bei Bandcamp nur zwei Titel vorhören. ｍ●◑ｎ.ｓｈ○ｗｅｒ und ｑｕｅｒｅｎｃｉａ, mehr nicht. Um so mehr war ich auf das Vinyl gespannt. Was soll ich sagen … Hamma! Aufgelegt und komplett durchgehört. Was für ein entspanntes Album, lo-lo-fi sozusagen. Das Klavier gehört eigentlich nicht zu meinen favorisierten Instrumenten. Aber hier passt es wie die Faust aufs Auge. Gemeinsam mit den jazzigen Beats und den gut passenden Naturgeräuschen sorgt der tastengetriebene Holzkasten für eine überaus chillige Stimmung. Die Platte macht richtig Spass und lässt einen komplett relaxen.

Mein Tipp: schnell zuschlagen, denn das Vinyl ist auf knappe 300 Kopien limitiert. Hier könnt ihr schon mal reinhören:

Für Tapes #7 haben wir alte Bekannte am Start. Toetensen und Mettphonic (Purple Urkel) sind hier schon mal als Beach Hazers (Tapes #2) aufgetaucht. Diesmal sind ihre Solo-Werke „Sprung in die Stadt“ und „Mettbudz“ dabei. Komplettiert wird Tapes #7 durch L-One mit „Farska LP“ (Beat Art Department).

Fazit Tapes #7

Das Totensen & Mettphonic derbe Sachen raushauen, war mir schon seit dem Beach Hazers Tape bewusst. Aber die jeweiligen Solo Alben gefallen mir noch ein Stück besser. Trotzdem hat das Duo nicht den Tagessieg erringen können. Der „Gewinner“ der 7. Runde ist L-One mit „Furska LP“. Das Album gefällt mir so gut, dass ich gerade die Anschaffung des passenden Vinyls überdenke. Der Beatbastler aus München hat 15 jazzige Instrumentals produziert, die schon von den einzelnen Titelnamen her zu gefallen wissen. Man müsste nach dem Genuss der „Furska LP“ eigentlich satt und besoffen sein. Aber ich kann die Kassette auch zweimal (oder öfter) am Stück hören. Absolute Empfehlung, natürlich auch für die Tapes aus dem Hause Purple Urkel!

Nach AK420 – Rua Augusta folgt jetzt mit „Mr. Käfer – Travelin“ (PPT-LP-01) der zweite Vinyl-Streich des überaus sympathischen Underground Hiphop Labels POSTPARTUM. Neben dem Vinyl, dass im yellow/red-opaque/black marbled Design daher kommt, habe ich mir auch die passende Kassette (PPT-CC-08) gegönnt. Die volle analoge Dröhnung sozusagen.

Meine Wertung: 9/10 für „Mr. Käfer – Travelin“. Die hübsche marmorierte Platte und das Cover mit OBI Strip sind nicht nur ein optisches Highlight. Auch die produzierten Instrumentals des Beatbastlers aus dem österreichischem Salzburg sind der Knaller und klingen in Kunststoff gepresst fantastisch. Da hat das Label POSTPARTUM. erneut ein gutes Näschen bewiesen. LoFi Beats und passende Samples von vorn bis hinten, so muss das sein. Meine Favoriten: „Atasilu“, „Where Are You From“ und „Changes“. Hört mal rein, es lohnt sich!

Fazit Tapes #6

DerRalle konserviert mit dem Tape „Am Strand“ den Sommer für das restliche Jahr. Das Ding ist eine richtige Gute-Laune-Kassette. DIGGINSACK haut mit „Beat Battle Compilation Vol. 1“ einen schönen Querschnitt der gleichnamigen FB-Gruppe („This is a chilled Group for HipHop Beatmakers who love the art of sampling.“) raus. Ich habe mit der Kassette wieder viele (für mich) neue Produzenten und Beatbastler entdeckt, die es jetzt zu beobachten gilt. Gern mehr davon! Vom schottischen Label HNDPCKD stammt „Milk & Honey“ von Cheeky Forty. Da geht so richtig der Funk ab. Die Tapes vom Stapel #6 sind wieder durchweg empfehlenswert. Daumen hoch.
